Origins and Game History
The Chess game has drawn its origins from the age-old traditional game played in India, called Chaturanga, before 7th century. In the current period, the Chess game has gained lot of popularity and fame, all around the world, and has challenged many people through unique strategy involved in completing the game.
Due to its popularity among the international masses, there are several tournaments held in various arenas. These tournaments are attended and participated by various players from countries all around the world. The history of the Chess game in the current era has invited onto the world dais, several Grandmasters who have championed in the Chess game.
The Chess tournaments, held all around the world are governed by Fédération Internationale des Échecs (FIDE), which is established in the year 1948. The champions in the Chess game, declared through the winning positions in the tournaments held are awarded with life-time master titles, and among those is, Grandmaster award, which is the highest award in the awarding structure.

Game Board Structure
While the Chess game falls under the genres of board, abstract strategy and mind sport, the game play involves a total of 16 pieces of 2 sets, assigned to each player involved. The two sets of 16 pieces are available in two color variants, namely, black and white. The two players involved in the Chess game move their assigned pieces, in a strategic manner and to the final, one player wins over the other opponent, by putting checkmate, using his 16 pieces.
Just as depicted in the below image, usually, the game pieces of Chess are segregated into 16 black and 16 white colored pieces. Each player involved picks their own color of 16 pieces. Initially, on both the ends, the two players arrange their sets of 16 pieces in a particular manner, and then start the game with the White color having the first move, followed by the player with the Black color.
Some of the world famous Chess players, in the current trend include, Magnus Carlsen from Norway, Garry Kimovich Kasparov from Russia, Robert James Fischer from USA, Viswanathan Anand from India, Fabiano Caruana from USA, Vladimir Kramnik from Russia, Anatoly Karpov from Russia and many such others.
Timed Game play
In the tournaments held world-wide, the Chess games will be in a timed manner, wherein, each player is allotted a particular time for each of their moves. If, for any reason, any player is unable to make a move in his or her allotted time, the game for that player is automatically lost, provided, there are enough pieces left on the opponent side.
